SURF FASHION – once an outward expression of creativity, independence, and non-conformity – has become dominated over the years by a handful of big name brands. These companies churn out surf clothing, season after season, with designs that have little or no link to the local surf breaks or surfing communities that they directly profit from. In fact you’ll frequently find the same designs in Queensland and California as you’ll see in Cornwall; mass-produced, generic designs, cheaply-made by workers who are paid poverty wages in unnamed factories without proper employment contracts or decent standards of health & safety.
As a designer, environmentalist, and social justice campaigner I wanted to prove that there was a better alternative. So with a little help from some friends, SURF KERNOW® was established in 2017 with the aim of producing ethically-made and sustainably sourced clothing with as little environmental impact as technologically possible.
Fair Wear® certified and guaranteed 100% organic by the Soil Association our Cornish-inspired original surf wear is riding a new wave toward a more sustainable, environmentally friendly and ethically responsible fashion industry.
Featuring designs inspired by the breathtaking power and majesty of the ocean around Cornwall’s unique coastline, and by the awesome boardriders (both locals and blow-ins) who are drawn together by a common call to surf Kernow.
